Walnut and Alder Bench

This bench was designed and built during a pre-college course I attended at the Rhode Island School of Design. Our prompt was to make a bench inspired by the basic principles of Shaker furniture design. I attempted to create a piece which was visually unimposing as well as a complete unit in that the eye had an established path to follow. It also engages considerations of strength and stability as it looks almost too thin to support the weight of those sitting on it. This piece required me to improve my skills in hand cutting joinery.
